Quebec’s mainstream music award night – L’ADISQ – is coming up at the end of October; and for the first time in 45 years, there’s a French RnB/SOUL category! We’re joined by Widney Bonfils,
a music industry professional who was a part of making this happen. Alongside other members of the Quebec chapter of ADVANCE Music Canada, they sat down with the ADISQ organization to educate them on what RnB/Soul music in Quebec has sounded and sounds like, and to inform them of the growing pool of artists who make music in the genre and in French. Widney explains how that advocacy work played out, the responses from the community of artists but also, why – as a music professional – he is determined to grow Black representation in the offices and boardrooms, and not just in studios and on stages.
