Tips and tricks for your pets this Halloween

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — With Halloween quickly approaching, let’s dive into how to keep our pets safe on this fun and sometimes scary holiday.

Halloween is one of the sweetest and most frightening holidays with costumes, masks, lights, decorations, and many strangers coming to your door. This can be overwhelming for your pets, so if your pet is nervous and not wanting to take part in Halloween festivities, here are some tricks to make the holiday run smoothly.

If you do not want your pets constantly running from noise or running at the door, consider greeting trick-or-treaters outside and handing out candy instead of staying inside. If that isn’t an option, then place your pet in a quiet room with their bed, favorite toys and a couple of treats to keep them occupied during trick-or-treating hours.

Most dogs will relax with classical music in the background. For cats, you can give them catnip to ease the stress.

Of course, the staple of Halloween is candy. We all know not to give pets chocolates, but other no-gos include gum and anything with xylitol, a sweetener added to many foods.
